This lovely cat is checking out the a neighborhood before going through the fence. Hilarious to watch, the feline spent a few minutes looking around, perched there on the fence rail. When I walked farther up the sidewalk the cat looks back and forth at me, then the next yard. Very cautiously, he jumps through and hugs the fence making his way to the next yard over.
Sifting through the layers of things accumulated over time is like looking at a photo album. Only now for me since the years lived are farther away from the final destination, the scent of their excitement fades faster.

Old silver plated objects are a favorite of mine. I notice there are fewer pieces showing up at yard and thrift sales. I'll don't use the Stanley Home Products salt and pepper shakers on the table. I use them for atmosphere. The flatware are handy for soup and cozy lunches in the winter. The vase appearances cycle with the seasons and emotions. And the old raisin box has broken so many times only the thicker wood ends have been saved.

The process of transition from Poet Whale to Maywyn feels like being at a
huge rummage sale on bag day. There are so many nice things left to
consider it's overwhelming what website host to chose or remain here.

In the meantime, I'm making a list of photographs not represented well in my folders. The usual is to go out and take pictures of whatever happens to be there. That's fun. However, the foliage tour this year will be all about taking photographs on purpose. Composition is the priority when choosing the scenes to record with camera and sketching. Being more organized will be a challenge. I'm preparing like I'm packing for a month at camp.

Do you make lists of pictures you want to take?
Set out on photography tours as opposed to being a tourist?

Looking back at photographs less than a decade old, I see people who have passed away, moved or just not out and about much.
The view in the photo (November 2004?) of the Green Mountains is from a diner along Route 7 in Vermont that changed hands many times. No longer an restaurant, used cars now fill the parking lot.
The flow of people in the old days, when the dinner was an extension of the community, felt like small festivals harvesting the news off the grapevines. Of the three places to eat in the area, all but one is closed. There are new places, but not replacements because when a layer of the community ages, it passes away. There's few old timers to sit around drinking coffee for an hour or two or to stop in after dinner for a coffee, apple crisp, and chat with folks.
Good reason to document photographs with names and dates. If I don't find out who is who in some of my pictures, then there may not be anyone around who remembers who they are. Sad to think, though, the best place to ask is the local funeral parlor.

Poet Whale Studio will be fading as I pick up the new blog Maywyn.
There is a way to redirect a blog to the new while leaving the old open to read. I've chosen to learn more about the American Impressionist, Fern I. Coppedge. I have no idea how much is out there to read and view. I do have three cut outs from I believe Art & Antiques Magazine. It will be interesting to see where the trail goes.
I wanted all white irises and gladiolas for my last wedding. Alas, in ancient times dreams and reality were budget nightmares.

This iris <span style="font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;">(photo left) is actually a darkest pure purple. I look forward every year seeing it bloom with a neighboring orange iris. Roses are regal gorgeous. But, irises have a story dreamscape you can almost read as opposed to only look at and admire.

Admire and read Art like you do flowers. Consider arranging a schedule of art books according to movement, style or subject, and spread them throughout the seasons.

I take old art magazines when I find that at the local library sale, and cut out all articles and gallery advertisements. I make a list of the artists with their pertinent dates, and a separate list of art galleries. I make a note of galleries and artists I will research more. Presently, 19th and 20th Century American artists are the areas I want to learn about. I have one folder for the magazine cut outs. I will create folders for each artist or area of art. For example, folders for Marine art, California Artists, Salmagundi Club, Midwest Artists.
I don't know if that is the usual way credits are done with TV ads. I thought actors are always included in the credits where they appear. I sent an email to the agency asking where I can find the list of actors in the TV ad.

If you know who the actors are, besides the J.K. Simmons playing the professor, and the blonde, Canadian actress Jennifer Baxter, then please let me know.

Thomas Fowler! He's the actor directing the guy in the maze!

Update!

So far...regulars on the University of Farmers TV ads
J.K. Simmons, the Professor
Thomas Fowler, driver in distracted driver ad, various speaking parts
Jennifer Baxter, the blonde, speaking parts

Love these ads, they are my favorites of this type of advertising
My...I'm not an electrician...Fan safety rules
When cleaning a fan:
UNPLUG or turn off the breaker.
I don't trust the switch on ceiling fans.
Never get liquids near the motor (on or off)
Completely DRY fan removable blades & grate cover before putting the fan back together
No fans on when not at home
No kids near the fans

Fans accumulate dust and grime. Grime especially in a small area where the kitchen is open concept. Its best to follow manufacturers cleaning instructions.

Problem: Cleaning a fan isn't easy. If there is a fan that's easy to clean, then I don't know what the brand is. A small table box fan I have doesn't allow the blades to be removed to clean. When it is unplugged, I use a small brush through the grate to move the bristles into the sections to get the dust and grime out.

For fans with grates and blades that can be removed, I take the grate and blades off for a wash in the sink or tub with a small vegetable brush or old tooth brush. I towel dry, and then air dry them before putting the fan back together. Water drops will get caught in tiny spaces. The larger area may be dry but the tiny bits may not be dry. The extra air dry is very important for safety reasons.

People with allergies can tell when there's a dirty fan about. If you begin to have breathing problems, then check any fans you might be using to see if the blades and grate are dirty.

Tower fans are nice, quiet and the breeze is gentle. Cleaning the one I bought is an absolute nightmare. For that reason, unless there are easy cleaning instructions that come with the tower fan, I won't buy one again.Poet Whale Studiohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10950079072914519227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6615075558616007713.post-60316092837028808512011-01-08T10:25:00.016-05:002012-12-09T11:51:02.005-05:00Oatmeal Chili<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I prefer the oatmeal chili as is without beans and meat.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Clean up...

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I adjusted the recipe to 1/2 cup of regular oatmeal because as the oatmeal cooks, it becomes thicker. One cup is too much for this small recipe. I estimate with one cup servings, there's enough for at least five or six people. Next time, I'm going to cook the oatmeal first to see how that works for the texture. Otherwise, the flavor and texture is better than I expected.

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">~On Monday I finished the last of the recipe by wrapping it up in multi-grain wraps. Its more versatile and fun thick than it is thin.

The silver dollar plant is an easy biannual to grow, blooming about the second year. They will self-seed if they are left to drop on the ground. Each pod has a least 3 or more seeds. There will be plenty of seeds to save and share.

Near the foundation, I've had plants green throughout a Vermont winter. In the Spring, the small rich purple flowers add fresh color to the landscape. I suggest keeping a picture of the plant on the fridge because its too easy to grab the young plants when you are weeding.
When the pods dry, gently move each side back and forth between your fingers to release the outer pod cover. The seeds will then fall out. Easy to grow. Easy to harvest seeds. Easy on the eyes, dry pod skins are paper thin and silvery white. The bouquet below is harvested from two plants. They grow to about 3 feet tall and have long and short stems. In Winter arrangements they add a classy touch through their delicate personality.

-There are age recommendations for having a colonoscopy. If you have bowel issues, then I think its a good idea to consult your doctor and then make your own decision.

It is a small test that can save your life.
You pay a Very important part in the process by making sure you prep carefully and correctly.
Read the instructions when they first arrive. Call if you have questions.
Then read the instructions again. Write down questions.
Then read the instructions again.

- Preparation is involved. I scaled down the amount of food and the type of foods about two weeks before my schedule colonoscopy. Check out online sources for foods that add the biggest bulk and/or pass through the digestive system slowly. I stayed away from spicy foods because they can cause discomfort in the end. The scaling down the portion size/amount and types of foods I ate helped ease hunger during the 24 hour fast.
Ask your doctor what the 24 hours means.
I thought it means 24 hours. Not. I planned my last meal that morning before because my appointment was an 11:30 AM arrival, 12:30 colonoscopy the next day. I called with a question, and was told I should stop eating when I get up the morning before. In other words, I should not have had that small breakfast.
The first colonoscopy I had years ago...the fasting was horrible. Changing my eating habits helped a great deal. I did feel at times nauseous, but it wasn't a bother.

- Keep the doctor's instruction sheets out in the open where you can see them. If there isn't a list of things to do, then make one of your own. Check it off, and check it for checking off what you have to do. Make sure you have your insurance card, medication list, and any other information the doctor may need or the hospital may require.

- Trilyte is the cleaning out process I was prescribed. I don't recommend the pineapple flavor packet. Measure your glass before you start. Don't guess what 8 ounces is. I did. Big Mistake.
I was drinking over 12 ounces fast the first couple of glasses. Nausea overwhelmed me to the point I had to cut back on the amount. A light bulb came on telling me to Measure. Once I began the 8 ounces the nausea subsided enough to not be a constant problem. The drinking every 10 minutes or so is not thrilling. Its a chore. Being in the bathroom for over an hour, and longer isn't as bad as it feels once its over. I recommend standing up when possible for the drinking phase because it goes down easier and there's less gas to belch. It took a half hour to produce results, and 45 minutes to produce the watery results. It can take much longer depending on when you last ate, what you ate, and your own system.

- Cleaning out process...I began at 6 PM the night before, and it didn't completely end until just before I left for my appointment around 11 AM. The night before it took with not precise measuring, 11 glass of Trilyte to finish 3 liters. I went to sleep around midnight.
The next morning 4 hours before the 11:30 arrival time, I drank the last liter, the 8 ounces every 10 minutes. At times output was clear, and others not. Eventually the watery stool became clear with just the hue of yellow-green bile fluid.

- During the process...How long am I going to be in here! Those are words that may ring in your brain after the first hour being in the bathroom constantly. After a while, being in there will be a source of relief and comfort. I returned often, and was glad of it.

- Clear means no food bits. Bile fluid will color the watery output a yellow greenish hue. In the morning there may be some bile grainy stuff that should clear out. Otherwise, clear means clear water stool output (light yellow bile color).

- I thought the fasting for 24 hours would show a decrease in weight. Not. I gained about 4 pounds. I forgot to ask the doctor why. Sodium in the Trilyte or just metabolism? I'm not sure.
I'm on my regular diet of fresh veggies, fruit, eggs, cereal, yogurt, and some times a meat dish. I expect I'll soon drop off those extra few pounds.

- Have a nice snack ready for recovery on the way home, crackers, yogurt, something light. I chose to have one bite of a banana, and a couple of small spoons of peach yogurt. I couldn't eat much more than that until after a nap. I took it slow and easy, no big meal. The next day a bit of end residue, and back to things flowing as usual.

-The hospital may give you a paper before you leave with after care instructions. Ask about those things you don't understand. A more detailed report will be sent to our primary care doctor.

- Weird part...I was dreaming seconds before I woke up that I was begging them to stop. For sure there was no procedure being done in the recovery room. I felt no pain or discomfort before or during the colonoscopy. The IV going in wasn't comfy but not a screaming pain.
I felt for the first few minutes miserable and disorientated. The air pumped inside had to be expelled, let out. That was uncomfortable. The nurses were fantastic helping me to get that accomplished well enough that I felt comfortable going home. I went into the bathroom to get out of having to move, walk it out so to speak. That produced the desire results.

- There is a blog on Blogger about Colonscopy that has a lot of comments I found to be very helpful. I recommend reading it.
